Found in Translation: A Glossary of Jewish Life

This forthcoming book will include the definitions of forty words for readers who wish to expand their understanding of Yiddish and Hebrew language and culture, as well as incorporate new words into their daily conversations.

In our environment of mass media and constant communication, people hunger for words to express their feelings, words to unite them with others in an increasingly fractured world.   On the surface, we are connected through email, instant messages, Twitter, Facebook, and other social networks, but when we dig a little deeper we find that we have lost ourselves and our relationships amidst the chatter.  Found in Translation offers words that can express our ideas and emotions, and our true selves, to one another.  In its light-hearted, inspirational essays, the book offers people a shared vocabulary and perspective about everyday experiences.

The Soul of the Underdog

My decision to pursue a career in the rabbinate was deeply influenced by my upbringing as a New York Mets fan in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  To read more about the connection between baseball and Talmud study, visit www.thisibelieve.org and read my essay titled “The Soul of the Underdog,” published online by This I Believe, Inc., National Public Radio and Atlantic Public Media.  (January 2008)

Reflections on the Rabbinate

Several years ago, I was privileged to write an article at the invitation of Professor Jack Wertheimer of The Jewish Theological Seminary of America (New York). This piece, titled “Transdenominationalism and the Future of the Conservative Movement,” was published in a symposium collection in Judaism: A Journal of Jewish Life & Thought, Issue 215/216, Volume 54, Summer/Fall 2005.  It is available online at http:findarticles.com.
